Firenze

Today we got up and decided to take the train to Firenze (Florence). It’s about a 30 minute train ride and we got there easily. It was a beautiful day. We walked by the river, saw the Ponte Vecchio bridge and then went to the Uffitizi museum and saw a lot of art and statues including some by Rembrandt and Michelangelo. The art work was nice but those times were pretty bloody. Lots of beheading and all. Glad I didn’t live then. Statues were amazing in how detailed they are. Ceilings were also quite amazing. After the museum we headed to lunch and then walked around the streets of Firenze eventually ending up at the Duomo. The duomo in Firenze is magnificent. Photos really don’t do it justice. There is so much detail on every wall. We returned to train station to return to Bologna only to find out 5 minutes after we were supposed to board that our train was cancelled. We heard something about police activity and maybe a bomb - but really not sure what happened. Several trains were cancelled. Initially they told us to go to another Firenze station which we did but there were no available trains from there. We returned to the main station by taxi and were able to score the last two tickets in the 6:30pm train- a few hours later than we planned to leave but it worked out. We returned to Bologna and will start packing for Rome where we head tomorrow.
