Bologna
Today we slept in a bit Shortly after 10:30 we walked into the center city. we walked around seeing the churches and squares and towers we went into the old anatomical theater (reportly the oldest inthe workd) which was quite beautiful with statues of Galens and Hippocrates among others. We had lunch at a local sandwich shop followed by more sightseeing. Bologna is the historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Its Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures such as City Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica di San Petronio. Among the city’s many medieval towers are the Two Towers, leaning Asinelli and Garisenda. Bologna is famous for its colonnades which have a total distance of almost 40 km. We got tired in the early afternoon and took a ride on the sightseeing train around the town. At 5 we met up with Paolo who did our food tour where we tasted bolognese ragu, pickled onions, mortadella meatballs, different versions of tortelloni, cakes from a local bakery and Lambrusco. Paolo also showed us a confessional constructed for lepers whereeach person stood in corners of a doned structure and talked into the wall. even though they are many feet apart the acoustics allowed those in the corners to hear each other but no one else could. After the tour we returned to our airBNB
