Today we took the hop on/ hop off bus around Munich. Started around the train station at Hauptbaunhof and first stop was at the Palace of Nymphenburg - a baroque palace that was the summer residence for the rulers of Bavaria. I'd like to have a house like this! Then off to the BMW factory. The factory showroom was in an architecturally beautiful building and we got to see a lot of very cool cars. Andy had a great time checking out the cars there. We didn't have time to see the BMW museum....next time. Then we went to Olympic Park - the site of the 1972 Olympics. We walked past the swim center (where Mark Spitz got all of his gold medals) and the Olympic stadium and Olympic tower. I'm sure it was amazing with all of the athletes and spectators when it was new - as it still is quite beautiful. We then headed back toward the main part of town, past the English Garden, the Opera house, Residence Museum, Old City Hall....eventually getting off at a Medieval Christmas market where we had lunch after looking at all the different booths selling things from knives to ornaments to dirndls and leiderhosen. It was a short walk to more modern shopping and we walked up and down the streets looking at all of the stores and then into the English Gardens (where we saw the river surfers). Eventually we headed back to take a bus to Marienplatz. From there we went to the Steif toy museum, more walking to take in the sites there and eventually ended up at dinner. It was an awesome day overall (though my feet are really tired).
